First introduced in the 1970s for safety glasses, Polycarbonate lenses have proven to be up to ten times more impact-resistant than plastic and glass lenses.  Because the Polycarbonate material is a natural UV Filter, it often provides up to 100% protection from the sun's damaging UV rays. As a result of Polycarbonate lenses being lightweight and more impact-resistant than plastic, Polycarbonate lenses are most often found in sunglasses, safety glasses, and sports eyewear.
